So IGTV is gonna monetize their platform, and that means creators like you can get paid over there when the times comes. And you definitely don't want to miss out on this opportunity. Today we're going to answer the most ask questions about IGTV. So if you're still not sure about this new feature, please keep on reading.
What is IGTV? Should I upload there?
IGTV stand for Instagram Television, and it's Instagram's new long-form video platform. Before you just had stories and the amount of time you could upload was minimal. but now, you can upload between 15 seconds and 10 minutes per video. Or if you're a preferred channel, you can upload up to 60 minutes, and those channels are handpicked by Instagram at the moment. However, they did say that they're gonna roll out one hour upload for everybody in the future.
And regarding if you should be uploading there or not, let's look at what we actually know about Instagram, and then we can come to the conclusion if you think that it's right for your content or your brand.
We know that Instagram was already insanely successful. And they announced that they have over one billion users. So, all those people now have access to IGTV. We know that Facebook is the parent company of Instagram and IGTV. And well, you all know how successful Facebook is. We also know that these companies have an unbelievable amount of user data. That means they know how people are using their phones. And well the people have spoken and they wanna shoot vertical videos and they wanna consume vertical video.
We also know that it's available for both IOS devices and Android, so that means no one is gonna be left out for the IGTV experience. We also know that mobile video is the future of social media. There's no denying it the data's there to back it up. So regardless if you're into that or you're not into that, that's where it's going.
And you've got over a billion Instagram users. You've Facebook behind it. You've got IOS. You've got Android. All this stuff is coming together to make one monster of a video platform.
We know that all the followers of your account on Instagram are automatically gonna. be added to your IGTV account. And we know that you can upload IGTV content not only from you mobile device, but also from your desktop.
And we also know that IGTV is planning to monetize their platform early next year. That means creators are finally gonna get paid for posting on Instagram. So right now's a perfect time to go over there and start building up your fan base.
Start uploading your content. Find out what works, what doesn't work. Because when it comes time for them to flip that money switch, you want to be positioned in the right spot so you can make the most out of it, and you can get monetized right out of the gate. And we also know the obvious is that it's brand new. So it's a land grab, it's a rush.
Everyone's running over there right now. So if you're creative and you can upload consistently, then you have a huge opportunity.
Can you imagine if you started on YouTube 10 years ago? Can you imagine what your subscriber base would be? Your view count? Your community? Your possible income? Your reach? If you would have started 10 years ago on YouTube? We can not promise IGTV is going to be the next YouTube. But we don't really know where it's going, and the possibilities are endless. So, this is one of those times where if you don't get in on it now, I personally feel you're gonna regret it.
Because IGTV is new we really don't know which direction it's gonna head in. But we do know that it's gonna move forward. And it's gonna be a force to be reckoned with. So the question isn't really should you be uploading there? The real question to ask is why are you not already uploading there?
Should I create a YouTube channel? An IGTV channel? Or both?
You wanna create both, because you want to meet the audience where they are. And you want to diversify so you don't put all your eggs into one basket. So, be everywhere. That includes Youtube, Instagram, IGTV, Twitter, LinkedIn, Twitch. Wherever you can put your content, put it up there and see if those platforms are gonna work for you.
Can I upload my YouTube content to IGTV?
There's not really an answer for that question. You can upload whatever you want, and see how it's gonna work. The jury is still out on what's gonna work on IGTV. A lot of people share their YouTube content on IGTV by upload it sideways. But you'll have to check what works for your audience. There are people that prefer Instagram, there are people that prefer YouTube, and there are people who meet in the middle. So make sure you're positioned in a way that you can be at both places at the same time.
Is IGTV really only supporting vertical video?
The answer to that is yes and no. If you're shooting vertical video, that's how they prefer you upload the content. However, you can upload your content sideways, which means they can watch it horizontal.
Does IGTV have any sort of statistics?
IGTV has analytics and you can actually see your watch times. You can see how long people watch your video before they lose interest or they swipe away. And the best part is unlike YouTube, where you have to wait up to 48 hours to get those results, IGTV is instant.
So as soon as you upload tat data is coming in. So you can see in real time where people are falling off on your video.
Can I get paid on IGTV?
Yes you can, but not yet. They're planning on monetizing early 2019, somewhere between January and March. We don't know what the requirements are yet, but we will soon find out. So go position yourself now so when that time comes you're ready for it.
It's now time to create your IGTV channel and start creating!
